Cesspool & Septic Services in West Hawaii

Cesspool pumping, septic pumping, conversions, inspections, repairs, and backups. One local crew for every wastewater system on the Kona side.

Cesspool & Septic Services

We are a full-service cesspool and septic company covering the Kona side of the Big Island, from the condos along Alii Drive and the subdivisions above Kailua-Kona, up through the coffee belt to Kealakekua and Captain Cook, south to Ocean View, and north through Waikoloa Village and Puako to Waimea. Outside the sewered core of town, almost every home here runs on its own system: a cesspool dug into the lava, a septic tank with a leach field or seepage pit, or an aerobic unit on a tight lot. We service all three. Routine pumping, a cesspool that has stopped taking water, converting an old cesspool to a septic system before the state deadline, an inspection before a sale closes, a cracked lid or failed pump, or a backup on a Saturday night. You call, you tell us roughly where the system is and what it is doing, and we give you a straight answer and a real price. No upsell, no scare talk, just a crew that knows how wastewater behaves in lava rock.

Cesspools, septic tanks, and aerobic units: we handle all three

The Kona side has every kind of system, often on the same street. Older homes and plantation-era lots sit on cesspools, pits that take raw wastewater straight into the rock. Newer homes and converted lots have a septic tank with a leach field or a seepage pit. Small lots and some condo and farm properties run aerobic treatment units with pumps and alarms. Each one is pumped, inspected, and repaired a little differently, and a crew that only knows one of them will guess at the others. We work on all three every week.

Built for lava-rock lots

Wastewater work in West Hawaii is not mainland work. There is little or no soil over the lava on most lots, so tanks and pits were set into hammered or blasted rock, lids sit at odd depths, and records from the original build are often missing. Coffee-belt parcels are steep and long, upslope homes run on catchment water, and a lot of properties are rentals or second homes that sit empty and then fill up. We bring the hose length for a long driveway, we locate buried lids without digging up a yard, and we know what a cesspool does when its walls finally seal in the rock.

Straight answers, honest pricing

Most of a wastewater system is underground, which makes it easy to oversell. We do not work that way. We tell you what your system actually needs, show you what we find when the lid is off, and quote the job before we start. If your cesspool still has years in it, we say so. If it is failing and pumping is only buying time, we say that too, and we walk you through what a conversion would take so you can plan instead of being surprised at a sale or a backup.

Cesspool & Septic: Questions We Hear a Lot

Do I have a cesspool or a septic tank?
If the home was built before the state stopped permitting new cesspools and nobody has converted it since, it is probably a cesspool: a single pit, often capped with a concrete lid, with no second tank or leach field. A septic system has a sealed tank plus a leach field or seepage pit. The county property record, the original permit, or a quick look at the lid usually settles it, and we can tell you for sure on the first visit.
How often should a cesspool or septic tank be pumped?
A septic tank every three to five years for most households, sooner for a small tank, a big household, or a vacation rental. A cesspool has no fixed interval; it needs pumping when solids build up or when it starts taking water slowly. If you cannot remember the last pump, it is probably due. Call and we will get you on a schedule that fits your system.
Do you handle the whole system or just pumping?
The whole system. We pump cesspools and septic tanks, convert cesspools to septic, inspect for home sales, repair lids, baffles, lines, pumps, and leach fields, and answer backups. One call covers it, and the crew that pumped your system is the crew that knows it.
My driveway is long and steep and the lid is somewhere in the rock. Can you still get to it?
Almost always. Long coffee-belt driveways and buried lids are most of what we do. We bring extra hose so the truck can stay on solid ground and still reach a pit far up or down the lot, and we locate lids from the plumbing and the layout before we dig anything. Tell us about the access when you call and we will come prepared.
